Volcanological Park And Museum At San Venanzo

Three Small Volcanic Area Become Protected And Important Center For Tourism And Educational Ambinetale

The area has developed around three small volcanoes (diameter of 500 meters and a height of 30 meters max) active about 265,000 years ago, namely: San Venanzo Sea, where he is today the location of the same name, the Ring of Pian di Celle tuff, located about 800 meters south and the Ring and lapilli Celli, about 500 meters east of Pian di Celle.
The Volcanic Park of San Venanzo addition to the vision cones, craters and lava flows, offers the opportunity to admire some rare rocks and minerals.
The most famous of these is the Venanzite rock under investigation for his matchless genesis conditions. Recognized as a protected area from the province of Terni, Volcanological Park has become over the years an important center for tourism and environmental planning. To highlight and explain in layman's singularity and the geology of the area in 1999 was born the Volcanological Museum, to which was added in 2004, a trail that is developed within the former quarry Venanzite. The museum has various collections of rocks and minerals as well as museological installations that take visitors along thematic routes, in a room is also set up an antiquarium where you can admire the archaeological remains of Etruscan-Roman period found in the area.
