| Town: Montone | |
![]() It was founded by the Umbrians, who experienced the same ups and downs as other centres nearby. Before 1000 it was a fortified castle in the possession of the Marquis of Colle. Then it became the possession of the Bourbons of Monte and then from the 1200 it belonged to Fortebraccio. On the 22nd of August 1473, it received the reliquary of the holy thorn from Carlo Fortebraccio and since that day celebrates the holy Monday dell’Angelo. In the 1500’s it was passed on to the Vitelly family, and then to the church.
The small town has been completely restored and is now a popular tourist destination. |
