| Town: Magione | |
![]() Visible from some distance is the tower of the medieval castle of the Knights of Malta. The name comes from the French word for house - maison- and was built in the 1300's on the ruins of a Benedictine monastery. Legend says that from here a message was taken to Genghis Khan. Then the cavaliers of San Sepolcro thus erected their " maison" here in the 1300's on the ruins of a Benedictine abbey. It was the work of the Bolognese architect F. Fioravanti. From the other side of Magione you can see the Lombard tower, which is presently being restored. |
