Specialty Museums: Surgery Museum Of Preci in Valnerina

Surgery Museum Of Preci in Valnerina

This very unique museum tells the incredible story of the “empirical” surgeries of Preci, which already in the 16th century was carrying out extraordinary surgeries worthy of complaints by some of the most important courts in Europe. Even Elizabeth I Tudor came here for a cataract operation.
The museum displays surgery tools as well as precious illustrative anatomy tablets and paintings of some of the most important doctors of the time. The timing of the origins of this illustrious tradition is hard to pin down, but the first news of the sort goes back to the 1300s. A strong link has been made with pork-butchering of those times, whose methods of dissection and processing may have been the source of exercises for surgeons back then.
