SPOLETO-CITY THEATRE: THE FESTIVAL OF TWO WORLDS
from 24/06 to 10/07 - 54th edition

A special edition, a tribute to its founder Gian Carlo Menotti, that starts with Amelia Al Ballo, the first successful opera he composed in 1936 (24/26 June - 1/2  of July). The comic opera Amelia al Ballo will start also at the celebrations of Menotti Year, with a full program of events and performances to be held in Spoleto to confirm the love of Spoleto people for the beloved maestro Menotti. Heart of the celebrations will be the "Concerto for Giancarlo" on 7 July in the Piazza Duomo, conducted by Steven Mercurio, for five seasons artistic director of the Spoleto Festival.
Also in memory of the Maestro the days of study and knowledge in the International Studies Meeting on Giancarlo Menotti. In this commemorative edition, which also coincides with the 150th Unit of Italy, there are many events devoted to the birth of our country, including the Day of the Risorgimento (Saturday, July 2): path to better understanding of historical events and the rediscovery of lesser-known aspects such as dance, costume and music, re-enacted by dancers in period costume who walk the streets of Spoleto performing dances in the 800 in Piazza Duomo.
Speaking of Unity of Italy, could not miss the music of Giuseppe Verdi in the Final Concert  program "Viva l'Italia" (Sunday, July 10 - Piazza Duomo), with some of the most famous operas: Nabucco, The Sicilian Vespers, Jeanne d ' Arco, Stabat Mater.
As backdrop to this rich festival of music, theater, dance, exhibitions and cinema, the incomparable background of Spoleto, which opens to this international event art theaters, hidden cloisters, the imposing fortress Albornoz, the scenic squares, evidence of a layered story that begins with the Romans to come to this day.
Piazza del Duomo, the Amphitheater, the Roman Theatre, the Caio Melisso theatre, the nineteenth-century Teatro Nuovo, the Cloister of San Nicolò will host shows and prestigious artists, renewing the winning combination of history, art and culture.
