Very special edition, which explores the relationship between the Old and New World music, European music since the early engagement in the lands across the ocean between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and that leads us in Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil and the USA.
A program of great prestige, which lends Umbria location of great beauty, from the Basilica of San Pietro in Perugia, where he held the inaugural concert and the final, St. Nicholas Abbey of San Gemini, the fifteenth-century Sanctuary of Castel Rigone , the Templar Church of St. Bevignate in Perugia, sacred places which meet the intense spirituality of music as the Stabat Mater by Domenico Scarlatti and Wagner's Parsifal.
The path of the Sagra Musicale Umbra moves chronologically backwards, from the twentieth century to the origins of Bernstein's sacred music in America evangelized, represented by the music of Spanish composers active in the New World as early as the first half of 1600. A novel route, which takes a look at the origins of musical traditions alive, but virtually unexplored to this day, such as Creole and mestizo born of the encounter between the Spanish conquistadores and the indigenous peoples of the New World. Pesenti sacred music will be found in Latin America and composed by famous missionary-era music educators, one of all the Tuscan Domenico Zipoli. The great Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms will perform the famous, as well as excerpts from the sacred work-Max theater In a program devoted to the relationship between European and American continents could not miss the Symphony "From the New World" by Dvorak, which in part derives the title of this 2011 edition of the Festival.
