Thrilling Race Between The Neighborhoods Of The City
The Palio of the Boats of Passignano sul Trasimeno, in program from 24 to 31 July, is a race very spectacular and unique among the reenactments in Umbria.
It takes place the last Sunday of July, and consists of three phases: the first and third in water, the second on ground, when rowers carry boats on their shoulders along the narrow streets of old town.
No less than 160 contestants attend the race, divided into four neighborhoods: Old Town, Old 2, Oliveto and San Donato, who took four fish of the Trasimeno Lake as symbol, Queen Carp, Pike, Eel and Perch.
In the the Palio program is also carried out "The Ride of Jugs ", reserved for women who must run in XVIII century period dress, with a pitcher of water on their head, the section which formerly went by the public fountain at the castle gate, simulating a possible enemy attack.
The program includes:
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: individual Rion trials
-Friday: ''Ride of Jugs "
- Saturday: launch of the challenge
- Sunday: historical Parade and Palio of Barche
Taverns open every evening and fireworks show on the lake the final evening.
Moreover: music from the Trasimeno Blues Festival on Friday and handicraft market along the roads of the historic center of Passignano.
