Archaeological Museums: National Archaeological Museum Of Umbria

National Archaeological Museum Of Umbria

The museum is located, since 1948, in the architectural complex of San Domenico in Perugia and collects the collections of the Museums of several sites, gathered here from Umberto Calzoni.
Thus was born the National Archaeological Museum of Umbria, the state-owned flagship museum in the Umbrian landscape.
Most of the finds came from nineteenth century excavations carried out in the Etruscan necropolis of Perugia and conducted by several scholars that in the course of the century, changes in the direction. They were responsible for important acquisitions such as the sarcophagus said Sperandio and the archaic bronzes of Castel San Mariano. A large quantity of prehistoric artefacts, due to the purchase of a private collection and excavations, increases from the early twentieth century the consistency of the museum.
Since April 2009, the Museum has been completely renovated in the paths and contents.
In the cloister, in a basement, was reconstructed Etruscan tomb of Cai Cutu (III - the first century BC.), with the original location of graveyards, highly effective solution for the visitor.
Along the walls of the cloister were placed numerous urns from cemeteries Hellenistic of Perugia area and Roman remains, in addition to Etruscan urns.
The same floor is home to the Bellucci Collection, the most extensive and comprehensive collection of amulets,  therapeutic
objects and magical-religious tools, produced and used in Italian folk band.
Significant is the prehistoric section, which goes by the appearance of Homo Sapiens, and is accompanied by interactive media which allow investigations on the origin of man.
The chronological path then leads to the Umbrian and Etruscan exhibition, which displays the aforementioned bronze plates of Castel San Mariano and multi-colored glass from Todi. A room is reserved to the Perugian necropolis, from which came artifacts of great value as the coffin of Sperandio.
A separate room is dedicated to the "stone of Perugia", Perugia Etruscan symbol, and object of special promotion for the remarkable historical and archaeological importance.
