Art Museums: Municipal Museum Of Saint Francis in Montone

The fourteenth century church of San Francesco, a nave with a polygonal apse and roof trusses, has frescoes of exquisite workmanship dating from the fourteenth and sixteenth century and a wooden choir decorated with inlays of the sixteenth century.
The Municipal Art Gallery, set up in premises adjacent to the former church restored in 1990, collects examples of arts and crafts related to the story of Montone: noteworthy are the banner depicting the "Madonna of Mercy " by Bartolomeo Caporali (1481), and a deposition group of the thirteenth-century from the church of San Gregorio in Montone. Of particular value is also the wooden group of the thirteenth century (Crucifixion with the Virgin and Saint John), a survivor of a more complex composition .
