Art Museums: Municipal Museum Of Palazzo Santi in Cascia

Municipal Museum Of Palazzo Santi in Cascia

The collection housed in Palazzo Santi has a number of precious polychrome terracotta (XI-XVI sec.) and an extraordinary group of wooden statues, rare examples of medieval religious art heritage. Very interesting appears that part of the ticket office, converted from a pharmacy of the early nineteenth century.
The building, located in the oldest part of the town, was built in sec. XVI combining several medieval houses. Born as a noble residence of the Santi family of Cascia, was bought by the Agostiniane nuns after the earthquake of 1703, and this was the house until 1739, when it became property of the City. After ups and downs and a variety of uses, the building eventually became home of the Municipal Museum opened June 26, 1998.
On the ground are exposed archaeological remains found in Cascia and the surrounding area, from the eighth century. B.C. to Roman times.
On the first floor, called the "noble floor", are exposed the terracotta along with the wooden statues and works that make up the Art Gallery, tables and paintings from different periods.
