Baschi Archeological Musum And Archeological Site Of Scoppieto

The Antiquarium of the Baschi houses archaeological finds from the Roman kiln from the first century. d. C. found in Scoppieto.
The tour of the museum is organized in sections, as illustrated panels instruments to explain the stages of working with clay, maps with points of light to detect the location and scale models of the furnace and transport ships are used to create a stimulating environment, full of ideas for educational activities.
The first section is devoted to the production of ceramics, the panels reflect all stages of creation of the
"sealed earth" , extraction and sedimentation of clay, modeling and firing pottery.
The term "sealed earth" means the outfit of fine ceramics tableware (plates, cups, bowls, etc..), which in this furnace were made with a typical red coral.
The second section
is dedicated to the dissemination of trade and manufactures products Scoppieto in Italy and in major centers around the Mediterranean, up to Alexandria.
The third section, which develops in the premises of the basement, is a photographic exhibition of archaeological finds in the past centuries in the territory and now held in various Italian museums.
The site of the furnace is in the countryside surrounding the village of Scoppieto, near the Lake of Corbara in the south of Umbria, and was discovered in 1955.
The excavation is still ongoing, has unearthed several artifacts, including items belonging to the aforesaid "sealed earth" and lanterns.
Eight work bays discovered, in addition to the furnace and decanters. It employed more than 50 artisans, who signed the articles under his own name, among which the most important production of two brothers belonging to the gens Plotidia.
This is a very important discovery because it provides a significant economic contribution to the knowledge of these historical productions of the early Roman Imperial Italic and Umbria in particular.
