| Mummy Museum Of Ferentillo | |
![]() This site was originally a cemetary, when it was once custom to bury the dead under churches. This practice was abolished by Napolean at the end of the XVIII century. This site is the St. Stefano church in the historical centre of Ferentillo, whose back part was deemed a cemetary from the year 1500. The presence of a particular microorganism in the burying grounds and the favourable conditions of humidity and temperature have assisted in the process of natural mummification allowing for the almost fully intact preservation of bodies. These "mummies" are currently protected by glass cabinets, and many of them still have their original beard, hair and nails as well as clothes. Despite the dark theme of this museum, its pieces are very interesting and its educational-scientific works are considered highly useufl. Entrance includes a guided visit and opening hours are flexibile. |
