Artwork for a night: the paintings of Spello dell'Infiorata
If someone has never seen the "Spello Infiorata" (flowery carpets on the streets) has lost a truly unique experience, in fact, who has already seen returns. And not just to admire the "flowers' paintings" stretching to the streets of the village lying on the ground as tapestries, but for the slight scent that wafts everywhere, the atmosphere of serenity and joy that communicate this flowering art.
Art on the streets but not street-art road is the one that governs the construction of "Infiorata", replicating paintings of famous painters, or create new images, inspired by religious motives, to celebrate Jesus and the miracle of the Eucharist.
Throughout the night before the Corpus Domini, which this year falls on June 26, groups of artists - infioratori - bent on their drafts realize scenes on the pavement with the colors and the delicacy of flowers and herbs, for use as these short-term: the passage of the procession on Sunday morning marks the glory and the breakdown of the work, but the thrill is still long.
The size and artistic quality of works makes the "Spello Infiorata" one of the most famous and popular floral Corpus Christi, so that each year attract thousands of visitors that animate the features winding streets of medieval Spello.
Among the events not to be missed: the selection and "capatura" flowers in the downtown streets during the week, a visit to the "Infiorate Museum" (museum of flower festivals), the historic photo exhibit, the "Night of Flowers" with the realization of the sketches on the streets, composition with flowers and music touring, the procession on Sunday and, to mark the occasion, the menu of flowers, herbs and other products.
Browsing among the structures that protect the works from the wind, visitors can taste local specialties, or stopping to eat in restaurants, shopping in local arts and crafts, visit the exhibitions of paintings, photography and floral embroidery.
Is there time to do during the long night of Flowers: museums, shops, bars will be open from Saturday until Sunday evening.
