Municipal And Diocesan Museum Of Norcia
Fortified residence dating from the sixteenth century, was the seat of the apostolic governors and was built for the Pope Julius III.
His commanding appearance, partly motivated by anti-seismic building requirements, it expresses the papal power at the time. Restored as a result of the frequent earthquakes, from 1860 it became the seat of the municipal offices and then be used to create the museum in 1967 with works held by the City, the Bishop's Curia and the Institutes of Charity.
Today the Castellina, as well as various temporary exhibitions, it houses the Municipal and the Diocesan Museum (includes romanic statues, wooden group of the Passion, works by Della Robbia, tables and paintings of several centuries including works by Niccolo 'da Siena, Antonio da Faenza ), the Collection Massenzi (Knight Evelino Massenzi donation to the city of Norcia and inaugurated in August 2002) and an archeological exhibition.
