| Fair Of The Dead | |
Perugia 01 - 06/11/10 | |
![]() The fair "La Fiera dei Morti" is the event of the year most deeply rooted in Perugian tradition. This fair of ancient origins, at one time called The Fair of All Saints, had the function of trade in agricultural produce and cattle. With the passage of time it developed into a true market fair where today objects of every description can be found. As every year the Fiera dei Morti takes place from 1st to 5th November in the square "Piazzale Umbria Jazz" in Pian di Massiano. Decades ago the historical market took place in the old part of town (Corso Vannucci, Via Baglioni, etc.), however, due to the increase in and diversification of trade it was necessary to move to larger areas, finally arriving at the present location, Pian di Massiano. What"s most striking during the days of the fair is the festive atmosphere, and the colours and intense odours that make a stroll through the stands carefree and pleasing. Between demonstrations of cooking utensils and stands with plates and crockery of every kind nobody can resist the temptation to buy something, often only one or two items, which, however, at the time are irresistible in the merry carnival atmosphere. There is a wide range of goods on offer: leather goods, linen, books, discs, hardware, household objects, carpets, flowers etc. Original and captivating is the section dedicated to handicraft products, coming also from the twin towns, including pottery, glassware, wrought iron, wood, handmade soap, as well as typical food products. For the smaller ones, and perhaps not only them, adjacent to the fair there is a large space reserved for a fairground, called in the local dialect "I Baracconi", which lasts for the whole month of November. info: +39 075 5771 |
